Ingredients
4 medium turnips (approx. 2 lbs)
1/2 stick butter, cut into pieces (plus extra for greasing dish)
2 cups heavy cream
2 cups sharp cheddar, grated
salt and pepper, to taste
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350° F. Peel the turnips. Cut off the tops and bottoms. Using a mandoline or the slicing attachment on a food processor, slice the turnips very thin.
- Butter an 8 x 8 baking dish. Layer 1/3 of the turnips in the bottom. Top with 1/3 of the cream, a few pieces of butter and 1/3 of the cheese.
- Repeat layers with remaining ingredients. Sprinkle the top with salt and pepper.
- Cover with foil, and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil, and bake for 15 more minutes.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
